Jose and The Pussycats Retrospective CD-COLORS

This new illustration came to my mind after I created The Beets CD cover and was thinking about what other faux cartoon band would make a great CD cover, what immediately sprung to my mind was Josie and The Pussycats. I didn't want to just draw Jose and the gang in their outfits playing their instruments, what I drew inspiration from was the awesome Cartoon Network faux animated music video bumper for Josie and The Pussycats titled "Musical Evolution". In 2001 Cartoon Network began airing a Josie and The Pussycats short, called "Musical Evolution", which featured the Pussycats performing their theme song through the various eras of pop music, including pop, disco, punk, Heavy Metal, country, and techno. Different animation styles are used for each era.  When thinking about how I could try to pay homage to that awesome animted music video my mind immediately jumped to a retrospective CD cover in which all the styles seen in the music video are presented. I chose to depict a static image of the band playing cut up, and each cut section is a musical era that was depicted in the music video. The two main styles I feel that that I radically changed was the punk rock and techno sections in the animated music video. I tried to incorporate those styles but when placed in the drawing not only did it seem jarring, out of place, it interrupted the seem-less image. When looking back and seeing all CN Groovies this an the Jabber Jaw one was one of my favorite.
